Notes on the day

Today I was at an appointment with a client and, as she went on and on about her relationships and life issues, it suddenly occured to me that I was doing what I had dreamt of. Not that I was ever in love with the idea of listening to other people's problems but this is what I had in mind when I thought that being a therapist was a nice thing. I was never obsessed with it and I never thought that was a vocation of mine or something I'd be good at. In fact, I doubt I ever will be but that's another story. Anyway, it's nice to get to know that person and listen to their story (obviously when you're in the mood) but I think we tend to romanticize certain things and that's what I did - because I was never in that position so I had to imagine it. Plus it's a really hard job because you need to help that person but you can't tell her what to do, which sometimes leads me to despair because people are lost in their own mazes of ideas.

It was my grandmother's birthday today so I went there to have a piece of cake after work - in this case it's english cake (we call that to a cake with fruits and raisins in it - it's really dull, in my opinion). There were a lot of old ladies having tea, chatting and nagging as they usually do. We listened to a LP (yes vynil!) of tango (my grandma's brother was a violinist at a tango orchestra) and they talked about the days when I was a little girl. I was also with my grandmother's neighbour, who I'm really fond of - I was with her a lot when I was a kid and have all good memories of her :)

Not good at your job? But you will be. I know this because you studied hard and was worried and cared about your studies. Dont make me dip into your archives to prove it!

Cathy: you think so? Would you be interested in becoming a psychologist, if you didn't have a career already? :)

Daybyday: you're right!

Esuoh: lol I know I studied but it takes a lot of practice and experience and not just study. Maybe I'll get there but it's still really hard. :P

I think if you continue to care you'll get there. No one can walk into a field and be briliant at it but those that keep trying get there and I have faith in you.

You can counsel me!

FB: I hope I can enjoy what I do even more. Now there are a lot of extra circumstances in my workplace that don't make it that great. Yes, chocolate cake would be much better :)

Esuoh: he he Thanks, that's very nice of you.
