Russian Dolls - a theory

The rain came back today after a summer week. It was nice and refreshing. Never in a million years could I predict that I'd enjoy rain so much, but I do :)
I was watching a film this afternoon (The Russian Dolls aka Les Poupées Russes), which is the sequel of that film I keep going on about (L'Auberge Espagnole). I hate calling it a sequel because that word has a very negative meaning most of the times. This film comes 5 years after the first and follows the lives of the same characters, so it is a sequel...
The film is a little messy, reflecting the emotional and romantic mess the main character is in. He keeps going back and forth, passing through Paris, London, St. Petersburg and Moscow and also through a lot of women. Apparently women love his type, don't know why exactly.
He finally settles with a woman at the end of the film (this probably means there'll be no more sequels) and he explains how is life is like playing with Russian Dolls. He means that women came into his life and he had to pass through them to get to the last one, the little one that was inside all of them and all the time he was wondering if a certain woman was the last one, yearning to get to that last doll. I thought this was interesting.
Apart from that, there's a lot of funny scenes and many things to think about. Thumbs up!

Hmmm...this reminds me of my step-dad, who, on the rare occasions he has to refer to his first wife, calls her his 'practice wife'. As opposed to my Mom, who is, of course, the real wife. But, do we ever know if we've found the non-practice love, or in terms of the film, the innermost doll? And I don't mean that in a cynical way, either. If something is that bound to last, fated, and we knew that it was fated, wouldn't that make it seem a bit forced? It's nice when things could end...but then they don't.

I want to see this!

I have a theory about russian dolls really being Brazilian but without the limbo dancing

Maddy: Great! I love your enthusiasm most of all :)

Kimananda: That's funny, the practice wife but also a little sad for that woman. But you're right, I don't think we ever know if that person is the "innermost doll"'s impossible to know. People may talk about a feeling of being "meant to be" but nowadays most relationships aren't forever,'s complicated!

Chris: You should really see this, being a's educational :)

Nevets: Brazilian? But why? Sounds like an interesting theory :)

I hardly get a chance to watch movies lately, but thanks for the great advice on this one.

We also are having cold rain after a very summery feeling week. I just wish tomorrow would be nice because we are having an Easter egg hunt!

Cathy: I hope it was okay for the eggs hunt. We did a coin hunt but this time it were the children who hid the coins and the adults had to search. it was tough!

This has nothing to do with Russian or other dolls, it's just that I can see I've been neglecting you as of late, so I'll just link to you and be here a lot more regularly :)
