And so the Champions League begins...

And every football fan in the world rejoices. It's the must of all competitions.
I think I can still make a few prognosis even if it has already began.

Favourites to win: Inter (no club in the world has such an amount of great players and they'll win if Mancini knows how to create a team, which I somewhat doubt), Barcelona, Chelsea...I've learnt to keep Real Madrid out of this list lately but this year I won't so...Real Madrid. Oh and Man Utd if they can keep a regular level (sometimes they sliiide).
Potential: as usual Lyon (can they make it further this time?), Valencia, some club from Moscow will probably be a surprise, Sporting...Porto (hopefully!)

From tonight's results I have to highlight this one: Sporting CP 1 - Inter Milan 0

Oh Mr Benitez you spent all that money but you can't find a winning combination!

Oh Mr Benitez you got it so horribly wrong last weekend!

Oh Mr Benitez at least your team kept a clean sheet today!

Oh Steven Gerrard stop hitting the post everytime you shoot!

lol that's true. But PSV aren't such a bad team and they were playing away so it wasn't too bad.
It would've been a great goal if Gerrard hadn't hit the post...
At least when you're supporting poor teams there's always the excuse that you don't have the money to buy the right players ;)

That reminds me...Benfica should be playing against the unfortunately abbreviated FCK (or as the fans shout on the street before and after the games, 'ef-say-ko...ef-say-ko') sometime soon, yes? On the other hand, I managed to miss seeing the Portugal-Denmark friendly (probably for the best, though, seeing the result), so I'll probably miss this one, too.

Kimananda: That's right, it's tonight. lol that's a funny abbreviation ;)
I didn't see that friendly either and I thanked God for that. It must have been lousy (from this point of view, of course).

It was lousy from my point of view as well, of course, as my loyalty to vossa selecção is quite firm. My boyfriend, whom I should point out is actively disinterested in football on any other occasion, was actually gleeful when he told me the score, and proceeded to tease me about it for the whole day. In a nice way, of course, but still....

Steve: Who knows? The Aston Martin (as I've heard people call him) seems to be doing a good job.

Kim: The selecção thanks you for your loyalty and for putting up with gleeful winners :)

I've joined a champions league pool at work despite knowing absolutely nothing about the game, it's players and everything else.

May the powers of fluke make me a winner!

Day: It's okay!

Chris: Good luck! Maybe it's best if you don't know anything, some things happen by mere chance.

Pool will rise. They always have a pitiful season start. Noone expected them to even make the finals in 05, but look what they did to Milan!
