"Kings' Day"

Today marks the end of the holiday season (phew...!) so it's time to take out the decorations. Over here in Portugal it's King's Day - traditionally this is celebrated in Spain and some spanish-speaking countries but it's also marked over here, though it's not celebrated by everyone.

Basically, it marks the day when the "three wise men" (over here they're called the magi kings) arrived in Bethlehem to greet the new born Jesus Christ with presents (gold, incense and myrrh). That's why this is a day for presents, if you haven't had enough already ;)

That's also why I'm posting the picture of the "blog presents" I got these last few weeks. I hope I'm not forgetting anything, but above you can see candies, homemade yummy fugde and a calendar from San Francisco (from Kimananda), a little Santa and some stickers (from Chloe), a cd, postcard and (missing = already eaten) chocolates (from Scholiast), cards from Meow, DaybyDay and some more cards from Chloe and Scholiast. Thanks everyone for making my Christmas much richer :)

The three wise men went to Bethlehem following a star that indicated that the Messiah had been born, that's why some people think they were astrologers from the East.

I did not know that festivity continued long after Christmas.Your blog design continues to fascinate me!Each time I visit, I still want to click on the "pull" thread--and then it feels like everything is tumbling down on my head.I love it!What a childish joy I get!:-)

I had never heard of Kings Day !! Hope it was a good one.
I still have my Christmas Decorations up, we only got home today, and I don't know when I'll get a chance to remove them ... hopefully by the weekend !!
Take care, have a great week, Meow

Kim: The stash is thanks to you as well :)

Scholiast: Thanks!

Ps: I'm happy that pull thingie makes you happy, it's these little moments of childish pleasure that keep us alive :)

Chloe: Absolutely, get those trees out of my sight !! :)

Meow: I know it's even harder to remove the decorations than to put them on, but as long as they're not getting on your nerves, you have plenty of time to take them out...

"three wise men" (over here they're called the magi kings

i thought thats what they were called everywhere, no? we had a lil lesson in school, i don't remember, maybe 8th grade or something, and it was titled 'the gift of the magi'

Devil Mood said...

Dharmabum: Well, to be more specific, we call them "Reis Magos", meaning the magi kings, but I've heard many people saying wise men.

dharmabum said...

'reis magos' - hey thanks devil!
