crazy nights and others not so crazy

I've been having zillions of dreams at night. I think this happens when I sleep more than is necessary, but it's still hard to open my eyes wide in the morning. It's very restoring (this excess sleep) and I can't remember the last time I felt sleepy during the day, so it can't be bad for me.
Most of the dreams I've been having are quite banal so I sometimes cannot distinguish the dreams from the reality. Imagine I dreamt that my toothbrush was getting old, the next day I'll check it and find out it's not. Duh, how dull am I?
One of these nights, I dreamt I was in a maternity, but I wasn't having a baby, I was an intern or a student there (I may have caught a glimpse of Grey's Anatomy the previous night). One of my teachers was there and many women and men with babies...most of them looked very strange and quirky. The teacher told me and other colleagues we had to measure a baby's blood pressure and everyone started grabbing babies and doing that. I just stood there, completely terrified, not wanting to believe that I had to do that. I wasn't a doctor, why did I have to do that? And most of all, horror of horrors, I didn't know how to do that in a baby, they were so small...I had no experience.
It's funny now that I remember it but I was very scared at the time and felt completely incompetent.

I'm listening to Astor Piazzolla - the master of tango. It inspires me to write.

A sleep doctor I heard on the radio said that people remember their dreams when they sleep without waking up for longer periods, like for instance if you got up several times a night, instead of sleeping from say, 12 AM straight to 8, it should seem like you dream a lot more. Is this what's happening to you?

Eric, am I sleepy or is there a contradiction in what you said? Do we remember more dreams when we sleep without interruption or with interruptions? I'd say 'with', it seems more logical. That is probably happening to me because I wake up but keep falling asleep again. It's addictive lol Thanks for that!

My dreams are coming back slowly, I remembered the Magritte one for example, but it is the thoughts I have between my dreams and tosses and turns I have been considering. I wrote a whole morning journal entry based on some of those...and I sometimes fall asleep at night with the journal in front of me, and still no entry!

Novel: I'm sure if I started making one of those journals, I'd never remember anything anymore, or I probably wouldn't sleep worried about remembering things lol But it's great that you try! I'm sure there are many answers to our questions in our dreams and general night thoughts.

Hmmm - I can't figure out when I remember my dreams vs. when I don't. I feel like it's more the WAY I wake up.

Funny to dream about normal everyday things like the toothbrush :) I once dreamed I was at work, answering the phone, working on my computer...nothing unusual, except I wasn't getting paid for it in money I could cash in the waking world.

Dreams can be very bizarre ... dreaming about your toothbrush !!!
I often dream of very mundane things, like feeding the cat, washing dishes ... go figure.
Hope you are well.
Take care, Meow

I used to try and decipher dreams. When you figure it out (and usually it is only you who will be able to do that--because only you know what each thing might symbolise. So if you consult a dream dictionary they may tell you something completely different) it is always an 'a-ha' moment.Dreams are interesting.Sometimes bizzare. But always interesting.

First of all, there's no such thing as "more sleep than is necessary". If you need an excuse, just say you're catching up on my behalf ;) Secondly - I can't remember ever having a "normal" dream. Well, probably I just don't remember them... I used to have the same dreams every so often, I've even dreamt a black-and-white thriller, complete with soundtrack (and screaming!), but that was years ago - the few hours of sleep I get these days (or nights, as it were...) I sleep like a rock and probably dream nothing..

Holychaos: I've had some of those, now I have recurrent themes, though the dreams aren't exactly the same.

Stephanie: I think so too - if I wake up suddenly, I tend to remember the details better. How frustrating to be working in your dreams AND not getting paid!

Meow: I dream of those things too, they are parts of our lives we can't deny. Enjoy yourself!

PS: I absolutely agree with you, only you can decipher your dreams and they can be very surprising when you think about them profoundly. I've had some premonitory ones, the most scary of them all. And yes, they are interesting!

Scholiast: lol, thanks for that, I will use that excuse and sleep ahead! How fun, dreams with soundtrack! I've had some funny ones too. Usually when I'm very busy, I can't remember them either.

Oops. I just read that back. I think I was a little distracted then. :S

Ahem...

What I was saying was, that if you wake up within a certain time after you go to sleep, say, in intervals of less than 2 hrs, you will remember your dreams better. At least, that's what the radio guy said, and with some personal experience I'd say he was pretty much right.

Eric: Exactly! I agree! I thought that was what you meant but I had to be sure.
