Music for the weekend - Happiness is...

Happiness is singing in the choir of a soul band. No, really! Fast forward to the 2:30 minute and you'll see. Those women are happy. They are ecstatic!

This is a scene from one of my favourite films, The Commitments. If you haven't seen it, it's about a group of people from Dublin that are struggling to make something out of their lives, until they come together, or they're forced together in some cases, to form a soul band.
Things aren't easy in the beginning, as you'd expect. They don't get along, they hate each other's guts. They think about quitting the band. They search for better jobs. But, in the end, their manager 'manages' (excuse me) to make them forget about their own little dramas and give their best to the band. And they are a success, as you can see.

Those women are empowered there. Of course, you can say they are being sexually exploited because they're all dolled up and moving seductively. They're the only women there and they're the choir! Of course. But look at them, they are happy there. They regained their confidence in the band, every time they left their lousy jobs behind at the end of the day and became...soul singers. That's the magic of music. Of soul music.

Awww - I loved that movie, but haven't seen in in ages!

Now I have that "Happiness is a Chemical" song stuck in my head - though. It's got a bit of a sarcastic tone, but the dancing in the video makes me happy ;)
