Earth Hour (edited)

Tonight turn off the lights.
The original iniciative wants us to turn off the lights for an hour at 8pm of your time. Light a candle and give the planet a break.

Alternatively, you can switch off everything from 7:55pm to 8pm. It's not the same, of course, but imagine the difference it can make if lots of people do it.

More information on:
http://www.earthhour.org/

[Edit: It seems that the real Earth Hour will be in a month from now (I'll remind you then) and we're supposed to turn off the lights for an hour from 8 to 9.
Today it was only five minutes, the five minutes before 8pm. And that's what I did. It was no biggie.]

Great idea! How are you these days?

That is a wonderful idea...I will have to do that one, assuming I can remember it when the time comes. I love things like that, though the question is always one of how to spread the word so that enough people participate to make a noticeable difference.

Great idea! I think I'll try this tonight :)

It would be nice to see the city cascading into darkness all at once. Unfortunately I will expect to see too many lights on in empty offices in skyscrapers...but I will try to hide in a dark cave somewhere...or perhaps a snow tunnel.

Planet Earth says: It's so cool that you posted this! You're doing your part well, indeed. Thank you!

Missalister says: I'm on board with this for sure, and have signed up on the earthhour.org site.

Hey, this is quite cool...here's the link for the Danish contingent of this. I'm not sure if it's the main one, or if there are others, but it looks like a lot of Danish places have joined in.

Chrispito: I am fine, thank you but I've been missing your insightful posts.

Kim: I'm adding another edit to my post, as I only really understood it after reading the newspaper. I guess the only way to do it is by telling everyone you encounter.

Jane: Hope you do!

Sirbarrett: I didn't notice any difference looking out the window. It's sad but some people really don't care whilst the majority didn't even hear of the event.

Gillian: That's wonderful! It seems that the real 'earth hour' will be in a months time. The information wasn't very clear. Don't worry, I can see by your blog that you're very requested ;)

Planet Earth - is that you Missalister? I was confused for a minute. Good on you for signing up!

Hmmm...maybe that last one would make more sense with the actual link. Then, it's clearly time for me to go to bed. ;-)

Why yes, 'twas I! Having a little fun. Did you click on the Planet Earth link? If so, you already know how silly I was getting! I've been overcome by something akin to spring fever, a restlessness with a devil-may-care quotient of 45... Hopefully I'll be back to normal tomorrow! ;-)

Kim: hehe I noticed that but I thought since I didn't understand danish...

Lorena: Great!

Missalister: Oh I know what that is!! It's what I usually label as thirst for life. lol It was a lovely picture on your link.

great idea, specially if everyone then follows it up by cutting down on their energy useage all the time

Crafty: That's true. It should make us think about how easy it is and how much we could help.
