A blogoversary

Does this merging of words get on your nerves? Just checking.

So it came to my knowledge that it was my blog's anniversary. I might have remembered it briefly (even in the midst of all the June birthdays of people I know), but if it wasn't for Miss Alister remembering it too I doubt I'd be doing something about that. I was touched by her sharp memory and thought the blog deserved some kind of celebration.

I'm not sure this post will have any continuity because blogging suddenly turned into an alien thing for me. I still want to do it but I find that I can't. I wonder why I took up blogging in the first place, it's so unlike me - I don't usually think people are interested in what I have to say and it's puzzling how I managed to write assiduously for such a long time. I strongly suspect it was all about the people that were in the blogging journey with me.

I'm still basically the same person - give or take - and my life is fairly similar - yet poorer, without sufficient blogging interactions. You could say I substituted blogging for twitter for a while, but it's not entirely true since I only use twitter to contact with other football fans, so it's a very limited segment of my identity that I'm using there. (Funny the way I choose to segment these parts of my identity, need to look into that probably.) I didn't join Facebook even though people look at me like I'm a social pariah. I'm not against Facebook per se (and I've had profiles in other social networks), I'm more against the fact that it's become so widespread that people forgot there are other ways of communicating and even other social networks. When people tell me: but then you could get updates on my life when I'm living wherever-they're-living-in, I say: well, don't you have email or phone or can't you tell me about those things face to face? It's one of those trends that I hope will go away (though I don't think it will...), like that strange woman that thinks she's Madonna's reincarnation (even though Madonna isn't dead yet) or that Canadian kid with the mushroom hair that my cousins scream about. I'm not giving away any names! ;)

This is the post that I really didn't want to be about why I'm not blogging but couldn't really be about anything else. So apologies all round (to the 2 or 3 people reading this) and let's celebrate this 6th year, without pretending that I haven't blogged for a year. I know a cheater when I see one. Have a drink of your choice. I'm having tea because it's the middle of the afternoon.

Bless you a thousand times for a trillion years, Ms. Mood. I have been hankering for LISTP, and why I remember its birthday I’ll never know. If you asked my family and friends they would all tell you I simply can not remember birhdays. So this is something special, again, I have no idea why.

If I’d known you were on Twitter, I’d have followed you! Well, now you should follow me @Miss_Alister, and I will follow you to the ends of Porto! Remember I’m into footy, Chelsea by rites of certain associations… Anyway, I know Porto’s good, especially under José Mourinho no?

Faceache’s preposterous! It’s crosstown traffic. Such bad news, such a drain on a person. So screw that but not everybody (like me) hunkers down to e-mails and perhaps some (like me) have phobias around phone calls and…

Never mind, I’m having my favorite Chardonnay in celebration of LISTP’s birthday.

Can you be happy with this little thing, even if it’s just you and me? I am. I didn’t mean to cause you any trouble, and yet, in the same breath I’d say I just wanted to stir you up, to see where you say you’re at.

Thank you Devil Mood. You were my first blog friend when I started at in 2008 and I’m attached to you and LISTP’s bouncy voice : )

The fact that you didn't join FB is entirely in your favour. Nice place you have here.

you know..what you have to say is always interesting...challenging and entertaining! Yes it really is!!I'm glad that you resist the urgings of others to follow the crowd (although supporting Porto involves a very large crowd!)

So ...Happy blogoversary...you're still alive and you've still got things to say!

Miss Alister: hahaha you are a riot! You're very welcome. I was certainly glad that you stirred me up and that I ended up writing something. And it was no trouble, even if it took me a while to get it done, the blog muscle not being as strong as it was before.

haahha I'm a phone-phobic myself and sometimes I get lazy at emails, but who cares? People will not die of mal-info-nutrition if they don't get FB updates from me and vice-versa.

Ahh I want to follow you but at the same time feel that my twitter persona is not worthy of you :)

Richard: Hello, thanks for visiting! Glad you liked the place.

Niall: Thank you, yes I'm still alive and devil mood is alive too, it seems. Hope to keep it up :)

Damn, Ms Mood, I missed my own 6-year birthday, which passed two weeks ago. Unlike you, I've not had the sense to give up the nonsense, and I am a full-time resident of Mr Zuckerberg's facejungle, the inimitable Ms Alister's Expressway to Your Heart putdown notwithstanding.

You can berate yourself all you want about your dormant volcano of a blog, but you are first and foremost my mostest favoritest music guru. For that, you are always close to my heart. And since Sade is at the root of this here blog, you may be interested in this nifty little remix that I play endlessly like it's Duffy's birthday and there's no tomorrow:

Bloomsday it is, too, Ms Girl: you and Jimmy Joyce must got a thing for the land of Gemini.

Hello Tammie, thank you for visiting! Glad you're still around as well. I don't care much for phones neither, I keep forgetting mine everywhere...

Hi Paschal, I didn't know our blogs were the same age, they could almost be twins (false twins that is!).
Ah, I didn't mean to point fingers at the facejungle users, just trying to steer clear of that jungle path.
Hey, you are not the least bit inferior as a musical guru, I'm always pleasantly surprised in your blog. Enjoying that remix now, very relaxing :) And isn't it fitting that blogs should be Gemini?

Aathira, oh thank you, I appreciate that. Wish I could provide more but at least you have many many old archives ;)

Dharmabum: You too, you're still posting! Thank you.

Happy blogiversary! I don't even remember when my poor neglected blogs were born anymore...but our blogs are still here, living their public lives, even when we don't update them as much. I think....

I like Facebook but it seems to have eaten all the time I used to spend on blogging and took most of my blogger friends with it! Anyway, just wanted to say whether or not blogging is the type of thing you would normally do, I'm glad you went out on a limb because I appreciate you being around!

Devil Mood said...

Kimananda: Heyy you! I seem to remember your blog was born on this part of the year too :) I think they are living on, at least there are still visitors.

SirBarrett: Sometimes going out on a limb and doing odd things works out really well. Shame I don't do it more often ;P

sirbarrett said...

Are you sure you're not a social pariah? Lol

Devil Mood said...

Sir Barrett, I didn't say I wasn't, did I? hahaha

dharmabum said...

where have you been? long time, no post. I was on FB for a while, and I know what you are saying. this new year, I bailed out :)

Dharmabum: I'm still here, just a lot quieter :)

Well, Ms. Mood, I don't know what it is, but something always tugs internally at me around this time of year. At first I'm irritated, What? What? What??? and then I find my way to it: Oh yeah, it's LISTP's birthday! I can't remember family and friend birthdays to save my life but I remember this blog's birthday. Go figure. It's just one of those rare, mysterious things that puts a wild and welcome spin on the mundane :-D

Devil Mood said...

Miss Alister,
it's one of those universal mysteries, I'm sure, since even I tend to forget my blog's birthday. But so good of you to drop by and remind me. That means I haven't blogged in a year...scary! Hope you're well!

thank you for your kind words...

It’s that time again, Ms. Mood. Got to sign the blogoversary guest book, it’s my newest tradition. LISTP has seen a lot through your eyes, and now it has the eyes of the Venus de Milo, it sees inside, it dreams, has a life all its own, maybe even mourns the loss of Mourinho to Chelsea…
OK, as you were. That’s it, my pilgrimage here, my homage rendered. Now to reflect during the journey back home : )

Miss Alister, I'm so blessed for having blog friends that remember the important dates when I always forget :))
It is true, the blog is a bit statuesque and who knows what it is thinking...almost wish it would write itself! :)
