just because

To have and not to hold
So hot, yet so cold
My heart is in your hand
And yet you never stand
Close enough for me to have my way
To love but not to keep
To laugh, not to weep
Your eyes, they go right through
And yet you never do
Anything to make me want to stay

Like a moth to a flame
Only I am to blame
What can I do?
I go straight to you
I've been told
You're to have, not to hold

how nice!
and i think this goes for everybody. nobody is to hold or to keep. to love and to have should be enough.

Chloe: I like that picture - it reflect the song very nicely. It should be enough but I'm very possessive! I'm a beast of love lol (not at the moment, but usually)

Honestly...I didn't realize it was Madonna.

It is really lovely. I think we can love but don't hold too tight or it is hard for your relationship to breath. Does that make sense?

Steve: you don't have to :) Plus, it's better as a song than as a poem - Madonna in the yoga-era.

Connie: Like I said to Steve, this is Madonna in her yoga-phase - she's got some good lyrics in the Ray of Light album, especially one about her daughter - Little Star. Yes, that makes sense, of course, we must always keep our identities and not become just a couple.

That is an exquisite photo. And that's another philosophical issue for the dinner table, individuation vs. coupledom, and the boundaries and overlaps between them. Thank you for posting this! :-)

Kimananda: I'm just glad you never run out of things to talk about :) But I wouldn't want to create another heated discussion he he

That is simply beautiful. I had no idea Madonna could be so .... i don't know ... so un-Madonna-ish !!! Great post. Take care, Meow

Kimananda is really on a roll!
It IS a beautiful picture.
I'm up for the debate!

Meow: Madonna can't blame people for not taking her seriously after Material Girl and songs like that...but she does have some more profound lyrics. I'm glad you liked it.

Madelyn: lol she is! Maybe she'd like to post this in her blog, or you...I can't think of much to contribute to the discussion, except that some people that become a couple lose their individuality and start talking in "we"s.

it's so sad :(

Catarina: I thought it was a beautiful little poem but, now that you mention it, it really is sad...
