This is Vila do Conde - I think this building was a prison, now I don't know what it is. Perhaps it's still a prison, but it's quite nice. And massive, in a small town.
I think this usually sells ice creams or maybe newspapers. But there was a modern ice-cream seller nearby and this one was closed. :(
These are "barquinhos" (little boats), the typical sweet in Póvoa, since fishing was the main activity there. They're really sweet, with a bit of chocolate on top and inside a lot of eggs and sugar (and they came with a poem saying how there is no greater love than the first one...)
From the top of the beach, you can hardly see the sea, it's very long and deserted.

What beautiful pictures.
I loved the icecream stand -
sort of sad and reminiscent...
i loved the boat sweets -
soooo cute! And they look yummy.
I love the idea of gambling with just a cent...of course that would mean that with a big win, you might be able to buy, oh, maybe half a bica. ;-)
Please keep posting photos of places...the more I see, the more I get homesick, and the more saudades I have, the more it will inspire me to maybe move back. Which could be cool.
Sophie: They're a bit unfocused because my camera goes crazy at times, but thanks :) The boats are yummy but you can't eat too many, they're very rich.
Kimananda: lol, that's sweet. Today it's really sunny again and the sun is so hot I can't even be under it. Is that enough to make you come back?
I think with 1 cent you can play in the slot-machines, thus make a lot of money, if you're lucky!
Day: It's very poetic :)
I like seaside places out of season they're kind of spooky in a forgotten melancholy way.
You can still hear the buzz and sounds of children and its easy to imagine the place full of people as well.
Am I making any sort of sense?! Or am I off my head?
FB: lol I thought that was very poetic of you. It does make sense, the beach was like an abbandoned house, but the weather was so nice, it suprised me that no one was there.
i love all the pictures and what a nice jewellery shop!
