What a glorious sunny day we've got today. Lovely!
It rained through the night and today it became bright, fresh but not cold and very very sunny. Like an early Spring.
There was also an earthquake this morning felt mainly in the south of Portugal and Lisbon. It reached 5,8 in the Richter scale and there was no physical damage. I was asleep so I didn't feel a thing, but people in the south were very frightened. Although the earthquake of 1755 is far, far away (it practically destroyed the country - up to 100,000 died), people know there is an eminent danger of others happening.
And, finally, the referendum! The Yes won (with 59,25% of the votes against 40,75% of the No). Unfortunately the abstention was around 56% so this result won't immediately mean a change of the law. Still, now a new law will be discussed in the parliament and it will be approved by the majority. This was an important first step towards a more equal treatment of women in this situation. But it's not the only step: people need to be informed, they need to be sexually educated, they need to know their options and they need people to help them through these difficult moments. Anyway, I'm happy.

Good news about the referendom!. As for the earthquake..reminds us how vulnerable we are. I've been going over some of our older posts..you have some lovely photographs there..you should take more..I'd encourage new readers to this Blog to get into the archives!
So let me get this straight: "Yes" is for pro-choice?
I'm a little envious over you early spring weather. I'm kind of tired of the super cold around here, but there's a snowstorm coming, so maybe I'll warm up to winter again soon.
Take care!
An earthquake--I am glad there was not any damage...and especially that you are okay...
...and I am for anything that is pro woman!:)
Niall: Oh thanks, I'm flattered! Archives tend to accumulate fast. I get a little lazy on the photographs, but I'll try to post more.
Eric: Yes, pro-choice. Well, spring is gone again. Really rainy today, go figure...
Novel: Thanks, girl. And go women! :)
its funny how things like geography can bring about a cultural difference...
i've read in so many of the western books about the 'glorious sunshine' and such associated perceptions. where i live, its hot and it gets hotter. so when it rains (its never cold!) people are actually quite thrilled. its like a parched man being given water...
about the vote and all - it is a decision. whether or not it is pro-women, i think wud depend on particular situations, no?
Dharmabum: During the summer, believe me, rain is a blessing over here too because it rains very little and there are many forest fires. But mostly people prefer sun and they complain about rain. I like rain.
Everything depends on the situation, but now women will have a choice and they won't be penalized, that's what was voted.
