Eurovision - France 1991

Eurovision season is approaching and though it isn't something to look forward to now, it's always a good excuse to reminisce about the time when it was worth it :)
When I was a kid, it was the coolest thing (for me). It was the perfect combination of music, dancing and foreign languages that I didn't understand.

This is Amina with the "Le Dernier Qui A Parlé", one of the best songs on 1991. It had the same points as the Swedish winner, but sadly got only 2nd place, according to the rules of maximum points.

This song stayed with me through the years, I think it's really powerful and I love the ethnic influences in the song, mixed with the traditional french accordion. I can't explain my attraction for Maghrebi things, colours, patterns but especially music. It's probably something karmic, from another life. Or perhaps it's the fact that I lived as a baby amongst the moroccan culture in Paris. I don't know which is harder to believe - the past life experience or the early life experience. lol
I also love the way these things were received by the french culture. I think they welcomed it and developed a love for ethnical things, which didn't happen in other countries with strong immigration, I think.
Well, enjoy it, if you can. The fashion sense is dreadful, but it was 1991!

Ahh, like American Idol with bigger production values.

If only Morrissey would enter...

I always try to watch Eurovision ... I usually get quite a giggle out of it. The hosts that we get are actually British hosts, I think, and are soooooo bad !!! Some of the artists are quite good, but some are very, very bad !!
Have a wonderful week.
Take care, Meow

Niall: Eurovision is not what it used to be. I don't even know what the portuguese song will be!

Eric: lol no Morrissey, unfortunately. This is the most mainstream you can get. Celine Dion sang in Eurovision, for Switzerland! 8P

Meow: It's more giggles now and less quality, but it's a tradition over here to watch it. We have a host that's really bad too, but it's so bad, it's cool! haha

Holychaos: So do I, but I tried to speak the other day and it was so hard. English sentences came out instead...
