devil mood's secrets for surviving winter

(Keep in mind that I'm referring to portuguese Winter here; don't come to me for advice concerning snow and freezing temperatures, okay? I know nothing about that!)

1. Leg warmers!! Think Flashdance and Irene Cara. Essentials!!

2. Exercise every day for at least half an hour - the only way to have my feet warm without artificial means...

3. Make sure you exercise listening to songs that remind you of Summer - see Buena Vista Social Club, anything salsa or samba or, my favourite, the Baywatch theme song!

4. Drink big cups of boiling drinks - honestly, it helps you feel warmer for a second, or two...

5. Whenever it is sunny, insert yourself in a balcony or window and imagine you're lying in a beach somewhere in the Caribbean.

6. Do lots of online shopping, as it keeps you busy and contented, and if you don't go out, you might actually forget it's Winter after all!

7. Forget how unaesthetic frizzy hair is, as you'll never get rid of all those flying hairs with this kind of humidity! Just take your mane as it is...

8. Eat chocolate, chips, cookies...you need the extra fat!

9. How about some so-called reverse psychology? Think about that Summer day when it was so hot, you couldn't move, you couldn't think, you couldn't breathe, everything was glued together, the air was asphyxiating...Yes, I thought this would do the trick!

10. Think positive: in June, you'll be able to wear t-shirts again (if you're lucky)!

(Note: This is supposed to make you laugh, so do me a favour ;)

Niall: I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at that one...

Sleekpelt: That sounds fantastic! Thanks!

Dharmabum: That is not really my thing, but if it works for you, I trust you. How are Winters over there? I'm guessing a refreshing break from the summer...

Chloe: I'm not too crazy about Summers either, but I guess I don't like any kind of extreme season. Ah, a holiday :)

Cat: oh oh don't be silly ;)

You have palm trees in Lisbon! How could anyone be cold in a place where there are palm trees?!

Long johns are the key.

This post made me laugh. :-)

And, these all work for 'real' winter, too...the only difference is that for snow and freezing temperatures you add several layers of clothing. So, not just a skirt, tights, and a sweater, but a skirt, two pairs of tights over a very close-fitting pair of thermal long underwear, boots, and a thermal undershirt under your sweater. Oh, and a well-insulated jacket. Easy! ;-)

LOL... good ones. Although I never thought about leg warmers. 'Cos from where I come, winter isn't that cruel.

I'd also add, "sleep" as one of them on the list. I love slipping under those comforters and getting a good sleep during winter.

I'm with Chloe here - we've long since booked our holidays in Crete for the summer, and we just laugh in the face of the snow that's falling now for some reason...

Sorry about your Porto but soooo happy about my pool! :-D I'll post photos of my new 'too soon, my mum's found out anyway ;)

good advice. no. wait...it IS summer here. mwahahahaha.

I'll miss snow for the holidays though :(

These are great tips, specially the leg warmers! I haven't seen any for sale though, but I'll look. I hate it when my pajamas climb up the leg during my sleep and i wake up with a chilly feeling. The leg warmers will do the trick!

You are so cute and funny ~
I survive winter by curling up with
a drink and your wonderful blog:)

(hugs!)

Uh yes! A warm drink and chocolate, too! I prefer winter! It's much easier to add extra layers of (hopefully fashionable) clothing... during the sticky summers, there's a limit to what you can take off, and it doesn't help! Bring on the snow and hot cocoa! :)

Sirbarrett: I have palm trees in front of my house and I'm still cold. Something in that theory is not right.

Kim: I hate feeling like a 'chouriço' will a bunch of clothes on top of me. Are those termal things good? There are some famous ones here called Termoteb.

Miss Iyer: You are absolutely right! Sleep is essential in winter, keeping your nose well under the covers ;)

Scholiast: "for some reason" it's snowing over there, I wonder what...Hey, I saw a banner the other day with your 'too ;)

Stephanie: I just realized how extra strange your Christmas is going to be this year. I hope you'll be surfing, my friend :)

Violet: haha that doesn't happen to me because I sleep pantless ;P but I use the legwarmers during the day. Sports stores often have them.

Maddie: Whenever I hear the word curling, I remember you and your chai and your warm blanket :)

Farfallina: You don't have snow over there, do you? You're so right, there's a limit to what you can take off hehe

OH MY GOD I love this post! You are so funny. I'll write you a survival guide to my Canadian outpost: it rains non-stop all winter, and if there is any snow (like, 1 inch once a year) the whole city is completely screwed up.
The rest of Canada thinks we on the west coast are a bunch of sissies, and I think so, too, ha ha!

Thermals are excellent, and can be quite thin...they save you having to use bulky clothes, they are 'instead of'. When it's really cold, they make all the difference.

Devil Mood said...

Chrispito: Glad you liked it! I guess every region has their own speciality - if it rained like it does there in other places, it would be disaster as well..:) But do tell about your Winter.

Kim: I like that. Less volume, more efficiency :) hehe

Holychaos: ehhe
Winter is not so bad over here, I just got upset at the weather changing. But so far, it's been benevolent. :)
