Yesterday
Yesterday in many parts of the world it was possible to watch the anular eclipse of the sun. Such a phenomenon wasn't visible here in Portugal since 1912. It was an interesting thing. But what I enjoyed the most was to see on TV some girls in Africa watching the eclipse. It made me think that this is one of the very few phenomenons that different cultures can actually share. Most of the things that bring people together these days are purely cultural: concerts, political or social demonstrations, sports. Only in natural phenomenons like the eclipse can we be totally equal, unfortunately.

You're right about that, thanks for bringing down my illusions ;P
But, at least, yesterday we were building our constructions of reality from almost the same phenomenon, to which we all are inferior to.
I like that thought that natural phenomena, no matter how we perceive them, may posess an intrinsic meaning of their own that no-one can fully see. In my view that suggests that we need other people in order to clarify our own perceptions and move towards a fuller understanding of the whole. (Yikes! Jon's back and in a contemplative mood!)
Jon wow! lol
I never thought of that, I guess we get too tied in our interpretations of the phenomenons. But I think it's positive to think like that because we're so much smaller than nature, we should respect that it has its own meanings that even we (the being of beings that we think we are) can't grasp.
yes we are all equal under the black hole sun
nature always has a way of blowing me away. try standing by the sea and looking into the skyline. all you feel is how small you actually are, and how beautiful everything seems to be even when life could be so wrong.
i didn't the eclipse, but i've seen it before, and i remember standing there as i felt being swallowed whole by a big shadow in the sky. my grandma told me it was a sky dog. hehe. no. i didn't buy it!
That's a great story. Waiting for more. Mitsubishi programable logic controllers
