fact

There aren't many odours I like better than the smell of Summer nights. Even when I'm inside I go to the windows and put my nose outside and inhale.

But some days there is an extra bonus: the smell of the soil after a good bit of rain. Ahhh that is pure bliss! And it takes me back to many northern Summers ages ago.

yes, it is an oft quoted smell in indian poetry - specially in the songs of movies, did you know!

Its usually been raining every night here in Bangalore, and every morning when I step out into the balcony, the clean air and the chill is heavenly... :)

Its really nice to see all the plants with water droplets on them too.. especially flower petals :)

Certain smells are intrinsic to the memory and experience ...the smell of freshly mown grass..rain on a dry hot day....I have so many associations which smells trigger..christmas cakes baking in the oven ..fresh coffee...but my all time favourite would have to be the sea.

Dharmabum: Really? How wonderful, I'm happy to know that! :)

Aathira: Aaah, wonderful description, I can imagine it myself right now!

Shadow: I love the smell of jasmine. I don't know if star jasmine is the same but it probably is :)

Niall: Oh yes, your old friend, the sea :)

Northern summers eh? Where were you? I also love that smell. I live in Canada where it's getting colder now, but still warm enough to walk about in the crisp air without a jacket (sometimes you need the jacket though). This is my favourite time of year. Soon the leaves will fall, just before the whole world seems to die under an anaesthisizing layer of snow.

SirBarrett: I say it takes a lot of guts to stay in Canada during Wintertime. The north I mentioned is limited, I meant the north of Portugal. Even though it's a small country, the nights in the south never smell the same way. In the north there's usually a blanket of dew coming from the sea every night.

Chloe: Oh, I'm sorry :( Over here it's been fresh all throughout the Summer, it felt more like Spring but it wasn't too bad. Hope some fresh air comes your way soon.

I'm trying to compile a list of simple pleasures in life.

I'm not sure I have smells on my list yet. Although bread is a good smell...

FB: I would definitely include many smells in mine. Yes, bread is wonderful! Bakeries in general, yum.
I don't know where all that money craze will lead but it's not looking good.
