Gore should have written it originally in Portuguese: the full makes all the difference.

Shadow and Murat: I should give credit to the translators: Mrs. Paula Vitória and Manuela Madureira. Sometimes the little details make all the difference and I was a bit disappointed when I read the original version of that paragraph. lol

I'm with you. Just "she hoped" is too abrupt, too decisive, too sealed, too soon. The "she thought, full of hope," gives time to taste the wine before swallowing, to think about thinking of being full of hope. And it allows room for her hope to be for more than just being bitten. It allows for hope for tomorrow, for romance, for love, for fulfillment of any kind.

But I agree, really, as the female character was observing and describing the male character and she was meeting him for the first time, so it was a crescendo of discovery for her. (I should've added the whole paragraph)
