SS - The Photograph
In this week's Sunday Scribblings, photographs are the theme. Say cheese.
Remember my Aquarian friend (the one that liked to experiment)? Well, shortly after I wrote that post, she contacted me and this week we spent an afternoon together. It had been quite a while since we'd done that. I chose this photograph because it's representative of our meeting. You can see our boots together (mine's the black thing on the right corner). We were sitting side by side, not face to face, my neck hurt after a while.
Being with her was pretty much how I imagined it. She remains cool and fun. She talks a lot, she's very open to tell me her stories. We talked about our old classmates and how most of them have unbelievable lives (not in a good way), how some have changed dramatically, how 8-10 years can change one's life completely. And yet some things don't change. She is the same, her essence is there and it will stay there. She was still going on her about her concerts and her newspapers and this and that person...but that is part of her.
It also occured to me how one friendship is completely different from the other. It seems I had forgotten somehow. It's not just the fact that you talk about different things with this or that friend, that you do different things with one or the other, or that one is more active and other is passive. I actually feel and act differently according to the person I'm with. This was something that really annoyed me when I was a teenager. I felt that my voice changed when I talked to figures of authority, I wanted to control it but I couldn't. It's funny to think about it.
More photographs.
Note: my friend's boot wasn't green, nor was the floor pink. I was playing with the colours.

Aww shucks! I really liked those green boots! It's true that we tend to speak differently to different friends. Let's see... Should I be wild and crazy or the utmost in socially acceptable activities?
That choice of color for the boots, reminds me of the Wicked witch of the west!
When I was younger I had a difficult time NOT mimicking an unusual voice. Once a waitress with a speech impediment looked like she was thinking about slapping me one! haha
it is true we metamorphose into what will be most acceptable with every one we meet.. its a human thing... survival of the fittest and all of that.....
we are chameleons, all to a certain degree. we shift and change depending on the people around us. we're like molecules that way. elements. stars. there's a certain gravity about it all.
thank god - i was wondering what a funny looking boot - green of all colours!
yes, friendships, relationships, each one is different, and beautiful in its own way. and each one teaches us something, fills a certain void that only it can.
I was with a large group of women recently(I like shoes, so I tend to notice)In a large social group, I will pick the shoes I like the most and make sure I speak to that person- odd huh? I have noticed that I get a lot of compliments on the shoes I wear also. I think it is something all of us do, though sometimes unconciously. Never once- not ever have I been in a large group of women and have any of them been wearing the exact same pair of shoes.
8-10 years? Even months or days can change a lot ..or sometimes stays the same. I guess its a choice we make! :) Yea friends are the coolest things that can happen to us.
And oh, thank God for those colors :| I almost thought that to be the culture of living in Portuguese :P
yar! I love this post. I've often been annoyed with myself how I 'am' different with other people. Goofy with some, serious with others.
How did your voice change with your authority figures? Higher or lower? If it was lower, that would be an indicator you were leveling out the playing field, I think...
I'm glad you had a chance to spend time with your friend. As my own Aquarian friend always tells me: 'we can't be all things for one person.'
I'm glad you enjoyed yourself!
I'm enjoying the various reactions to the Green Boots. They make no one indifferent haha
Granny Smith: Yes, but don't we do that unconsciously? I find myself having absolutely no control over that. Maybe it's also chemical.
Lucy: hahaha you're so funny!
Paisley: Oh my...I'm thinking, are we hypocrites by nature? ;)
Vesper: Like liquids. Water adjusts to all forms.
Dharmabum: That's true :) You're my tender friend ;)
Dailypanic: That's so interesting! I think I need to pay more attention to what I wear,I have some pretty bad scruffy trainers. Don't tell anyone! But I love it that you talk to the one with the best shoes haha
Miss Iyer: LOL No, actually portuguese people have really mild choices of colour. I hate that. Beige, black, grey...DULL!
Chrispito: To tell you the truth, I can't say if it was higher or lower, just very odd and funny. Now that I think of it, it could be only my perception of the voice. Perhaps I felt silly and I heard a silly voice. ;)
Not only do you tell me i should use a paint brush but you go and do it with your computer!A damn fine dotty looking photo there!...what would I do if I were in your shoes?....well I'd probably limp....I'm a size 9.
Niall: lol absolutely. Mine's a 5. You'd ruin my boots. ;)
Actually, I've just re-checked and it's a 4!! 4,5 for trainers. LOL
I'm usually the same with everyone except kids and dogs. ;) Loved what you did with the shot and that you two had lunch after the post.
well all things are improved when
magically turned to green:)
:)
I was glad to read you got together with your Aquarian friend again! And what a great revelation, that we become different aspects of ourselves in relation to different people. (note to self, stay away from people who talk endlessly about the weather...)
Nothing like a pair of green boots! Nice post - I always noticed that myself ~ that some people pull different voices from us. Interesting, for sure.
Tammy: Thank you. Yes, I'm VERY different myself with kids and pets too. hahaha
Maddie: I thought you'd like it. Fairy boots ;)
Amy: Thank you. I suspect those weather-people bring out aspects of yourself that you don't even want to know hehe
Tumblewords: I'm glad I'm not the only one ;) I thought I was being a bit paranoid at that time.
Just wanted to say I agree with your paragraph on changing depending on the friend. I am absolutely the same way. Thanks for the story! And the green boot is awesome even if its just a trick of colors.
Karen
Thanks Kiki :)
Glad you liked the photo and I'm happy you came by.
